COOP4PAM was an event organised by EUROACE in the context of the AGROPOL project and it was, at the same time, a Local Event of the European Week of the Regions and Cities of 2017 – EWRC2017.

The Euroregion “EUROACE” is the group comprised of three regions: Alentejo (Portugal), Centre (Portugal) and the Extremaduran autonomous community (Spain). It was founded on 21 September 2009 in Vila Velha de Ródão, with the signing of an agreement which, in effect, established the EUROACE , working community. This event certifies the three regions’ desire to reinforce and boost their cooperation.

This new agreement is the legal base for the creation of a greater Euroregion among these three regions. The idea is to begin a new period of collaboration in which they can work together on projects that are closer and more useful to citizens, businesses and society in general.

EUROACE is the first Euroregion with a tripartite nature on the Spanish-Portuguese border. The organization is not legally constituted and, therefore, possesses an open and dynamic structure, leaving the door open to all entities and organisations within the three regions, both public and private, that wish to participate.

AGROPOL-study (carried out on behalf of the European Commission, DG AGRI) studied the development of a cross-border agrifood model region. The aim of this pilot project was to identify key factors for succesful interregional agrifood cooperation boosting the rural economy. The project consortium adopted a “learning by doing” approach and co-developed two crossborder agrifood strategies in two different European areas: in the Spanish-Portuguese Euroregion EUROACE (Extremadura, Centra, Alentejo) and in the Austrian (Carinthia)-Slovenian border region.

The regional stakeholders were in the front seat; the research consortium facilitated the process and provided regional development expertise, focussing on a value chain approach.

The final report of the project can be consulted HERE.

COOP4PAM was, at the same time, a Local Event of the partnership “Network of resilient Regions and Cities”, of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2017 – EWRC2017.

This partnership was composed by the following regions: Centro, Portugal; Bucareste-Ilfov, Romania; Slovenska Bistrica (municipality) Slovenia; Tepebasi (municipality), Turkey; and Edessa (municipality), Greece. In the context of EWRC2017 it has organised, on October 10th, the workshop “Towards resilient, sustainable and resource-efficient cities and regions”.

COOP4PAM, as a Local Event EWRC2017, it counted with the participation of a member of the Natural Resources Commission, from the Committee of the Regions, Ossi MARTIKAINEN, from Finland. It also gave an input to the initiative “Reflecting on Europe”, of the Committee of the Regions, allowing, therefore, the participation of everyone in the debate about the future of Europe.
